Java History and Outlook (long talk)
Host: Eberhard Wolf
You cannot know where to go if you don't know where you are coming from. We find that it is important to know some history of Java to be able to navigate in current developments and make intelligent informed choices. This applies both if you are new to Java (in which case this is an opportunity to get an overview), or if you are already working in "Java world", then this is your chance to get to know why things look the way they do.
This two-hour long talk for .NET developers and other newcomers will take you through the last 12 years of Java developments, give you an overview of the current Java platform, significant technologies, players and developments in the history of Java. We will focus on "why" things are the way they are today, and come with some ideas as to where Java is going in the future. One thing is certain: it won't be going away any time soon.
