BIO Dr. Juha-Pekka Tolvanen is CEO of MetaCase Consulting, and a docent at the University of Jyv�skyl�, Finland. His area of expertise is on engineering of business modeling and software development methods. He has acted as a consultant to numerous companies and published papers on method engineering in several journals and conferences. Domain-Specific Modelling: 10 Times Faster Than UML Abstract Current development methods are based on the code world, leading to a poor mapping to organisations' own domains and duplication of effort in problem-solving, design and coding. Developing an in-house, domain-specific method allows faster development based on models not code. Experiences from companies (e.g. Lucent, Nokia, USAF etc) report order of magnitude productivity improvements (5-10 times). Building a domain-specific method leverages the skills of expert developers to enable other developers, and allows centralised evolution of the method with the domain. In the presentation we show how domain-specific methods work and how they can be implemented.
