 Trackhost: Joe  Hummel, PhD

Joe Hummel is a professor of Computer Science at Lake Forest College, a trainer for Pluralsight LLC, and an avid sailor. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine, and has consulted on Microsoft technologies since 1993.

He is a co-author of two books for Addison-Wesley on Visual Basic, taught hundreds of classes on Microsoft technologies, and delivered over 60 webcasts for MSDN. He lives in the Chicago area with his wife, daughter, and boat.

Abstract:

Ajax enables the design and implementation of rich internet applications, with user interfaces approaching that of traditional desktop applications. This talk will overview Microsoft's Ajax technology for ASP.NET, presenting both the server and client-side components through numerous demos.

The talk will include discussion of UpdatePanels, the Ajax Control Toolkit, and Microsoft's client-side JavaScript library. After attending this talk, attendees will have an understanding of how Ajax works, the benefits of using Microsoft's implementation, and how to create basic Ajax-enabled ASP.NET sites.
