Presentation: "Concurrency & High Performance Reloaded"

Time: Monday 13:20 - 14:10

Location: Rytmisk Sal

Abstract: Both Intel and Microsoft have recently said that we, as developers, need to start delivering more concurrency in our applications. The biggest obstacle to delivering more concurrency is the need to share data. In this talk we will explore recent advanced in the JVM that can help us reduce the impact the protecting data. We will also explore up and coming techniques that can help us meet the challenge of delivering more concurrency in our own applications.

Workshop: "Java Performance Tuning"

Track: Tutorial

Time: Sunday 09:00 - 16:00

Location: Musikhuset C 103

Abstract:

This seminar blends theory and practices that have been proven to be effective in solving real performance problems. The objective to demonstrate what steps are needed in order to quickly identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks. It will also help you to understand and avoid common and often costly mistakes that developers make when they embark on a tuning exercise. The seminar will cover;

  • Elements and dynamics of a software system
  • What resource utilization says about your application
  • The performance tuning environment
  • A simple peformance tuning process
  • Tooling
  • Java memory management

The hands on portion of the seminar work focuses on performance problems drawn from real world experiences. The hands on work is open ended and highly interactive allowing for the opportunity for us to learn from each other. This means that you should bring your own laptop to get the full benefit of the tutorial.
