Abstract: Useful and stable APIs are an important aspect of many software
systems. Designing good APIs and maintaining them is an interesting and
ongoing challenge. Like the proverbial drawing of a line in the sand, the
process of putting in an API starts in a wide open space of possibilities,
and abruptly transitions into something quite constrained that must be
held and defended. This talk will discuss effective ways to draw the line,
to make the line visible to all, and to move the line in response to a
changing environment.
