Abstract:

As your website gets more and more popular all the warts in your code and infrastructure come home to roost. The site slows down even crashes. Bottlenecks appear in unexpected places and the struggle to scale starts.

This presentation focuses on techniques and pitfalls in the quest to bring your rails application to the next level of scalability. It will look at rails specific optimizations, caching, tools for finding bottlenecks and infrastructure optimizations. By the end of the presentation the goal is that the listener will be exposed to the common pitfalls of scaling a web based application.
