Presentation: "The State of Open Source Enterprise Java"
Track:
Open Source Enterprise Java
Time: Wednesday 09:00 - 09:30 Location: SAS Nortvegia
Abstract: The open source community as a whole has been largely focused on building infrastructure and developer tools. In fact, the vast majority of the developer tools we all use for Java today are either open source or, at a minimum, touched by open source in some way. Consider the mainstays from the open source community, including Apache Maven, Apache Ant, Apache Commons, Apache Tomcat, Apache Struts, Apache Xerces, Apache Geronimo, Apache Log4J, the Spring Framework, Eclipse, JBoss, JOnAS - the list goes on and on and on. Open Source dominates the Java world and has been a major force in moving both the platform and the language forward. There are many open source enterprise Java offerings these days. Far too many, in fact, to be included in a single track in a single day. This track includes some of these important technologies that contribute to this dynamic and innovative world.
Presentation: "Achieving High Performance Enterprise Messaging"
Track:
Open Source Enterprise Java
Time: Wednesday 09:45 - 10:45 Location: SAS Nortvegia
Abstract: Designing a high performance messaging infrastructure requires not only a thorough understanding of the business domain to which it is being applied, but also knowledge of the capabilities of the MOM being used. Java Messaging Service (JMS) provides both reliability and high throughput, but there are often trade-offs between these two benefits. This presentation will present strategies for maximizing the performance of a JMS-based messaging infrastructure, including the selection and configuration of the messaging domain as well as more specific optimizations. The presentation will use Apache ActiveMQ to present specific optimizations, show their impact on performance, and discuss the business considerations involved in their implementation.
