Abstract: Introducing a new process into both a team and an organisation is challenging, both for the teams involved in delivery as well as for the management of the organisation. Andrew will present a case study of the story so far with SCRUM in his area of the BBC. Outlining how it was introduced, how buy in was achieved from around the business area, some of the changes it has provoked, what has worked and what hasn't, and some of the challenges which have both been overcome and some which remain to be addressed.

Andrew Scotland is Head of Development within the BBC's New Media Division. The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) is one of the world's largest public service broadcasters. His teams are responsible for much of bbc.co.uk's core internet infrastructure products and services as well as the development of the BBC's interactive TV services. He is a certified SCRUM master and has successfully introduced SCRUM practice into the New Media division's multidisciplinary development teams (Software Engineering, User Experience, Information Architecture, Editorial, Product Management and Project Management).
Andrew is particularly interested in the change management challenges encountered when introducing self organised approaches into teams particularly where the disciplines involved have differing approaches to the work they perform. He has also had to adapt to the need of a large public service company to provide a high degree of governance and accountability.
Prior to working at the BBC Andrew has lead software development teams in a mixture of publishing, media and technology companies.
