Presentation: "SCOOP: Concurrent Programming at the Right Level of Abstraction?"
Track:
Abstractions for Concurrency
Time: Monday 11:00 - 12:00 Location: SAS Suecia
Abstract:
Today's programs are increasingly concurrent, whether through multithreading or through the Internet and distribution. By and large we are still handling concurrent aspects through techniques dating back to the sixties. Is it possible to take advantage of object technology to handle concurrent aspects at the same level of abstraction and quality as their sequential counterparts? We have been working on an extension to Eiffel, SCOOP, which attempts just that, based on an examination of what contracts become in a concurrent context. The presentation will describe the issues involved, the concepts retained, and the implementation currently available. Presentation: "Panel: Abstractions for Concurrency"
