Tod Liebeck, NextApp, Inc.

Tod Liebeck Tod Liebeck is the lead developer of the Echo2 Web Framework. He has been developing web-based solutions since 1995. In 2001, he founded NextApp, with the goal of building an open-source framework, Echo, to enable the construction of web user interfaces without JavaScript or HTML programming. In 2004, he began developing a second iteration of the platform (Echo2) using the technologies now designated "AJAX".

Presentation: "Echo2: Delivering Rich Web Interfaces with Server-Side Java"

Track:   Java Rich Client Development

Time: Tuesday 17:00 - 17:45

Location: Conference Hall

Abstract:

Echo2 is an open-source framework for developing rich web applications. From the developer's perspective, Echo2 behaves as a user interface toolkit--like Swing or Eclipse SWT. Applications are created entirely in server-side Java code using a component-oriented and event-driven API. AJAX technology is employed to deliver a user experience to web clients that approaches that of desktop-based applications.

This presentation will provide an introduction to the Echo2 framework, discussing the basic concepts of Echo2 application development and demonstrating the design and features of the platform. We'll also explain how Echo2 works by taking a look behind the scenes at the AJAX technology used to synchronize the state of a remote web client with a server-side Java application.
