Abstract: Beyond the hype and promises of curing world hunger, methodologies such as MDA, MDSD, DSLs, Generative Software Development and Software Factories focus on one thing: How to automate the development process as much as possible to save time, improve quality, and enable developers to have more fun with their work. This talk will focus on real-world experience gained from applying a model-driven approach to software development in a number of customer projects, offer some (slightly biased) guidelines on how to build the appropriate tooling, and take a look at when UML is a good choice and under what circumstances alternatives might be preferable.
