Gerald Kaefer, Siemens AG

 Gerald  Kaefer Gerald Kaefer is software engineer at Siemens Corporate Technology in Munich, Germany. His research interests include Pervasive and Autonomic Computing focusing on emerging software architecture and patterns. In his research work Dr. Kaefer has published a number of research papers and articles in the field of wearable computing, power aware computing, and software architecture. In his development work he worked on a broad spectrum of projects ranging from embedded system design to transaction management in electronic commerce applications. He holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from Graz University of Technology.

Abstract: 'Smart Client' stands for easily deployable client applications that provide an adaptive, responsive and rich interactive experience by leveraging local resources and intelligently connecting to distributed data sources. In this talk we will describe the typical Smart Client Context by describing the challenges that have to be addressed by Smart Client Architectures. We will provide some solution approaches; describe how existing patterns might help and which other patterns might emerge in the field of Smart Clients.
